After the rich and diverse archeological rediscoveries of \u2018Seeking Forgotten Masters of Thai Photography\u2019<\/em> series of exhibitions (2011 \u2013 2014), Kathmandu Photo Gallery looks to the future with \u2018Project New Visions<\/em>\u2019<\/em>,<\/em> in search of exciting new photography in Thailand, starting with Ram Kanjanavanit\u2019s Burning Love<\/em>.<\/p>\n

If Edvard Munch had directed a music video, it might look like this: as if \u2018The Kiss\u2019, \u2018The Vampire\u2019 and \u2018The Scream\u2019 have possessed a set of acid-corroded Thonglor wedding photos. Instincts long suppressed by the artificial sweetness and perfect bliss of the world\u2019s romantic conventions bleed through as from an unstoppable wound. Ram\u2019s Romantic anti-romantic \u2018Burning Love\u2019<\/em> series is seared with a great yearning to break free of Designer Romance and all the lifestyle choices that it implies. For most of us, unenlightened souls embroiled in worldly expectations, such a longing, such a scream, is itself authenticity enough.<\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Project<\/em> New Visions<\/em> curator Manit Sriwanichpoom: \u201cHis compositions are uncomplicated but full of power. By blending painting and photography techniques, Ram creates another dimension of mystery and horror. The pictures appear to bleed with colour; what an intense and strange vision of love.\u201d<\/em><\/p>\n

 <\/p>\n

Ram Kanjanavanit<\/strong> (b.1988 in Bangkok) worked as graduation & wedding photographer and MV director after graduating in communication arts from Bangkok University in 2011 before going to New York to study photography at the International Center of Photography, graduating in General Studies in Photography in 2015. After a further year as teaching assistant in history of photography at the ICP, he has returned to Bangkok for this, his first solo show. Ram\u2019s previous exhibition was MANO (\u0e21\u0e42\u0e19) group exhibition at the RMA Institute in 2013. He has also covered 3 seasons of New York Fashion Week for Harper\u2019s Bazaar Thailand.<\/p>\n
